What is a Family Engagement Officer?
Family Engagement is a practice where a family engagement officer provides support to families. School and families will then share a responsibility to work together to support a child's health learning and development needs.
According to Huw Lewis, Welsh Minister for Education and Skills, "Families exert a powerful influence on how children get on at school. Schools that are both ambitious and successful recognise that to raise standards and improve learner well-being they need to engage effectively with parents, carers and the wider community."
The role as a family engagement officer:
* Provide support by signposting; including the family support team, mental health/well-being concerns, unpaid carers/young carers, food parcels and financial support-free school meals, education grants, citizen advice.
* Encourage to make communication between school and home easy.
* Provide a listening ear.
* Encourage both family and community engagement.
* Provide open mornings/afternoons for parents/carers linked with certain activities.
* Support all teaching staff.
* Attend meetings and provide a comfortable place for parents/carers to come along.
* Provide support with filling in forms.
In the PLC the Family Engagement Officer is Annabella Moss (known as Annie) who can be contacted at the school on 01646 602473 or on class Dojo via message.
