At The Pembrokeshire Learning Centre, the aim is to look at the individual needs of the child witKs31hin a nurturing environment and to make the appropriate arrangements to help the child modify his/her behaviour.

This is provided in the following way:-

  • Behaviour support in their mainstream school, by an Outreach teacher from the Centre
  • Placement in a part-time Key Stage 3 assessment group.  Here more focus can be provided for behaviour or social or emotional issues in a small group setting.
  • Staggered and support reintegration back into their mainstream school full time, when the pupil is ready to return.

During Key Stage 3 it is always the aim to keep pupils in their mainstream schools wherever possible, and if referred to the Centre, to reintegrate them back to their school as soon as possible.  The period of time spent within the assessment group is dependent upon the needs of the individual pupil.

The service provides advice, help and assessment for pupils who are experiencing difficulty at school and who are presenting challenging behaviour.  That can be identified as:-

  • challenging behaviour towards staff/peers
  • verbal and physical aggression towards staff and peers
  • withdrawn behaviour
  • school non-attendance
  • exclusions from mainstream school
